State machine

A state machine is a model of a system as a fixed set of states with defined transitions between them, used in orchestration to make an agent's or workflow's possible paths explicit and predictable.

State machine sits in the Orchestration part of the Agentik {OS} glossary, which defines the words used to build and run AI agent systems.

Also called finite state machine, FSM.
