Cross-encoder

A cross-encoder is a model that reads a query and a document together and outputs a relevance score. It is more accurate than comparing separate embeddings but too slow for large collections, so it is used for reranking.

Cross-encoder sits in the Retrieval & memory part of the Agentik {OS} glossary, which defines the words used to build and run AI agent systems.
