Grounding is tying a language model's output to verifiable sources, such as retrieved documents, databases or search results, so its claims are supported by evidence rather than only its training data.

Grounding sits in the Retrieval & memory part of the Agentik {OS} glossary, which defines the words used to build and run AI agent systems.
