Foundation model

A foundation model is a large model trained on broad data that can be adapted to many downstream tasks through prompting or fine-tuning, rather than being built for one purpose.

Foundation model sits in the Models part of the Agentik {OS} glossary, which defines the words used to build and run AI agent systems.
