Background agent

A background agent is an agent that runs asynchronously without a person watching each step, often triggered by events or schedules, and reports results or asks for input only when needed.

Background agent sits in the Agents & tools part of the Agentik {OS} glossary, which defines the words used to build and run AI agent systems.

Also called ambient agent, asynchronous agent.
